The Power of Crafting Clear, Concise, and Unbiased Questions Using ChatGPT
Whether you love it, hate it, are intrigued by it, or don’t quite understand it yet, there’s no denying that ChatGPT is having a bit of a moment. And if the hype, coupled with the AI trend predictions, are to be believed, this is only just the start.?
But as with any new trend in its early stages, there’s lots of noise around ChatGPT’s limitations – namely its usefulness, reliability, and accuracy.?
As someone who’s been using the AI tool for a few months, I’ve done deep dives to understand how this chatbot works, what it’s capable of, and how it can help us streamline our approach without compromising on the quality of our output.?
And you know what I discovered??
Although ChatGPT isn’t perfect, the problem doesn’t lie with the highly intelligent AI tool. The problem seems to be with us humans, and our ability to ask – and articulate – great questions.?
Better questions in = better results out?
There’s been lots of criticism of ChatGPT’s responses, but our ability to ask solid questions plays a huge role in generating better outcomes.?
I discovered quite early on that, despite my background in journalism then communications and business, that I needed to understand how to effectively talk to ChatGPT if I wanted to generate high quality results.?
In other words, I learnt that if you ask garbage questions, you’re going to get garbage answers in return.
(Disclaimer, as ChatGPT continues to evolve, so does the practice of flexing and adapting questions to keep generating high-value results.)

How to ask better questions?
The quality of the questions you ask ChatGPT will directly impact the usefulness, accuracy, and reliability of its responses.?
You can improve your ChatGPT experience and get the most out of this AI tool by asking questions that are:?
Clear?– take time to make sure your commands are simple, easy to understand and unambiguous?
?
Direct?– think about what you want to know / what you want to achieve and craft commands that will help get you those results
Open-ended?– avoid closed-ended questions that can be answered with just a "yes" or "no” and instead opt for open-ended questions that encourage ChatGPT to give you deeper, more meaningful responses?
Unbiased?– try to be neutral and unbiased in your questioning to encourage ChatGPT to give you a more objective and well-rounded perspective?
Well-written?– it’s always a good idea to proofread your questions before sending them to ChatGPT to make sure they’re free of typos and grammatical errors, as these can confuse the AI tool and lead to inaccurate responses
Follow-ups?– clarify any misunderstandings and dig deeper into the topic by using meaningful follow-up questions?
Give it a go?
In a nutshell, ChatGPT may not be perfect, but its ability to generate valuable responses ultimately lies with us and our commitment to learning. It's important to remember that the quality of the questions we ask will directly impact the usefulness and effectiveness of the AI tool. And by asking better questions, we can encourage the chatbot to provide more informative and helpful responses that will allow us to make the most of the AI tool's capabilities.
