Ask Yourself, What If?

Ask Yourself, What If?

I could go on and on about the importance of professional and personal development. It’s the key to propelling yourself and the people around you, the bridge that carries you toward the goals you have yet to reach. Through diligently developing yourself, you lay down the foundation for those that follow you.

Asking, what if, creates more and more questions until we are past niceties and dig into real challenges. This approach is far more effective than trying to struggle through obstacles within a stated goal. Be curious about what will be, the person you will be, the organization, and the people you will lead! Being curious is critical to great leadership.

Curiosity That Inspires Growth

What if you spent a whole day developing yourself? What if you went out of your way to ask someone you admire for advice? Whether we are at the top of our game or just starting out, there is always space to learn and turn into our most authentic selves. This curiosity will lead to and through obstacles that, with intention and curiosity, will propel us forward. Being curious is oftentimes the remedy of a courageous conversation.

Questions I’ve Asked Myself

The?LEADERSHIP Development Day?started as a dream of mine and is built around a single question: What if we brought together inspiring and growth-oriented leaders to share their stories? Everything after that was a dream come true. My team and I have pushed to new levels because of it. We continued to ask ourselves more questions after it was over: How could we better serve the attendees? Where could we be more intentional in content and promotion? How do we engage with larger organizations that are aligned with personal and professional development? We were pushing forward the organization and ourselves out of our comfort zone.

Take The Risk, Ask a Question

Think about all the goals you have for yourself, the people you serve, or your organization. List them out and then turn them into questions. What if I woke up earlier? What if I was more intentional with the agenda in my team meetings? If I listened more and talked less, would my perception of others change? Don’t focus on the answer just yet. The way you engage with those questions immediately begins a process of finding answers. The right questions might surface a false assumption and give us the energy to do something about it. Give it a try.
