Ask Not What Your Employer is Doing for You but What You Are Contributing to Your Organization

With respect to President John F. Kennedy’s 1961 speech [whether it was plagiarized from his teacher or script-written by an aide], it took great courage for the President of United States of America to tell both the Nation, and the World to focus on the bigger picture of humanity. Period.
When anyone talks of how hard it is at the office and how they are being ripped off by the company that pays them, they should think of the +2 Billion humans that work 6.5 days a week, +10 hour days, in zero air-conditioned offices, standing labor, and walking for miles to/from work.
It is tiring to hear on the bus, at cafes, etc., how the choirs of ‘busy-lifestyles’ is somehow justifying why this is the justification for reduced or zero passion for their employer, being late to work, and doing their existing employer any service. They should be grateful to their existing employer - and role - that many people in waiting would take in a heart-beat.
Drive Contributions to Your Org: 7 Get Real Contributing Hands-On Attitude Changes Needed
1. If you state you are passionate, prove it! Walk the Talk and take on tasks by saying ‘Yes, I’ll do it!' Bring on the challenges to yourself, go solve problem(s), engage in, and drive collaborative get-together whiteboard think tank sessions – make one if it is yet to exist – and above your immediate circle of listeners who agree in negativity
2. Learn new skills & share them and views with those that listen (vs. those that want to rip your idea off!) – Driving a macro spreadsheet was great at a point in time, and in todays rapid tech world, new skills are needed yesterday and everyday. Now, take on the new innovative and ‘out of your comfort zone’ learning challenges. Collaboration will benefit you and the teams.
3. Accept there is no 9 to 5 (or 10 to 4 for some) and embrace Digital and Laptop connectivity anywhere, anytime, and in anyplace (AT&A ref) as the BEST flexibilty in resource capabilities to do new solutions, and also providing 'things’ to learn…And don’t abuse being out of office either as Marissa Mayer’s discovered when she traced Yahoo employee activity to their homes…
4. Mentor and Collaborate…get engaged and drive Win for both results (remember the best coding programs have been through teams and unleashing their potentials (Ref Atlassian)
5. Think “If this was MY company, would I spend it, use it, like this?” I leave it to you to look at: Sales; Gross Margin; P&Ls by BU’s; Expenditures; Capex, Propex, especially Cash…and freely decide if the best use of time and cash is the result
6. Find your competitive trademark and share with staff, teams and digital mediums
7. Have fun in problem-solving! And, engage thoughts in team(s) achieving results, be both respectful in crediting the contributors and other team contributions. And, say it Loud to recognize them!
