1. What can I learn from this? You will have to take responsibility for what went wrong, it is no use blaming someone else. If you look at most successful people they take ownership for their mistakes. You will need to be constructive in your criticism but also to be objective, analyse the steps and write down where you think you have gone wrong, then remedy the issue.
2. What could I have done differently? What are the options that were open to you? Did you make the right choices? If you had handled it differently how would that have affected the outcome? Would you have made different steps if you had had the benefit of hindsight?
3. What do I need to do to upskill? Did this problem occur because my skill level was not high enough for this objective? Would I have had this problem if I had revealed the lack of skill on my part? Are there self-help, online courses that would help me reach the desired skill level.
After the first attempt to list the three positive things about the failure, your mind may be very resistant. Stick with the exercise and you will come to realise that you will see new opportunities that will arise from the disappointment.
