This bi-weekly LinkedIn Newsletter will address common and not-so-common questions leaders and executives, like you, have about the culture of the C-suite.
I've been serving in executive roles, reporting to Boards, CEOs, and Executive Directors since my early 20's. I've seen and experienced quite a bit, but mostly, I've learned a lot. These experiences are what led me to executive coaching.
If you're serving in the C-Suite or are headed in that direction, I'd like to hear from you. It's not often you can find a trusted advisor to answer your most pressing questions - for free. So here I am, let's talk!
This Week's Question:
Dear Pam,
I don't feel as if my supervisor, who reports to the CEO, is advocating enough for my business initiatives. I'm looking for a strategy that would allow me to get a seat at the table to ensure my voice is heard.

Getting a seat at the table does not guarantee that your voice will be heard. Practice becoming a person of influence, and seek to build a relationship WITH your supervisor AND with those around your supervisor for greater influence and impact.
Look to add value, build relationships, put your word to important assignments and keep your word, deliver top-notch work, and look for ways to build bridges. Become indispensable. There are endless reasons why your supervisor behaves as they do, so before you jump to a conclusion, first ask.
Let them know how you're feeling and work to understand what is going on. You can also ask for the opportunity to pitch ideas to the senior leaders WITH your supervisor.
This will give you practice engaging "at the table" and give your supervisor the comfort of letting go and learning how great it feels to support, encourage, and empower others. Let's hear from others...
