This bi-weekly LinkedIn Newsletter will address common and not-so-common questions leaders and executives, like you, have about the culture of the c-suite.

I've been serving in executive roles, reporting to Boards, CEOs, and Executive Directors since my early 20's. I've seen and experienced quite a bit, but mostly, I've learned a lot. These experiences are what led me to executive coaching.

If you're serving in the C-Suite or are headed in that direction, I'd like to hear from you. It's not often you can find a trusted advisor to answer your most pressing questions - for free. So here I am, let's talk!

This Week's Question:

"I'm getting hit with some negative comments in my LinkedIn post, and I see you have been too. They mostly hit when I post celebrations about people of color. It quickly becomes political. What are you doing about it?"?--?Livid in LinkedIn

This Week's Response:

Yeah, about that. Sometimes, Livid, the best thing to do is nothing at all. If you look at some of these instigator profiles, they seem made up. You can always delete the comment, but usually, I leave it for their colleagues to see - just in case they are who they say they are. I've found it is a good way to practice my own emotional intelligence and new ways of communicating with the ill-informed and otherwise stupid (oops, there I go). As I was saying, if it bothers you, delete it, but by all means, avoid a counter-attack. That is a waste of time and energy. Spend that energy on something you love, not on that stuff.

Some people copy the CEO and others in the person's company on social media posts like LinkedIn so they can see how this fellow employee is showing up on social media.

But what do others suggest for Livid in LinkedIn?

In brevity, opinions are just that..everyone is entitled to have one. However, know that it does not make it true. At the age of seven, my grandfather once told me. “Son, if someone is talking about you and you don’t agree with what they are saying…ignore them. Sometimes, this is the best course of action. Stand on your belief and facts. Arguing with them will only add fuel to the fire; and it will make them talk even more. It’s only a distraction designed to slow you down; if you let it. Your work and personal integrity should not be defined by what the next man thinks or believe ~ know yourself and your worth. A fool will always look even more foolish…talking to himself ~ remember that.”

I just leave it alone because the premise of the negative comments are often based in something illogical or unreasonable. It's a debate that goes no where. I just leave it alone and keep moving forward.
