Dear Designer,
Oftentimes we believe that we need to keep our head down, nose to the grindstone, and until someone acknowledges what you’re doing, let’s say by giving you a raise or promotion, you question if you are actually worth it.
Let me stop you right there.
If you are adding value to the company and producing consistent results, not only can you ask for more, you SHOULD ask for more.
How do you know if you are adding value to the company?
3 Questions to ask yourself:
With the first 2 alone you’re most likely secure in your job. But people who work on their own growth contribute to the company’s growth.
Some steps you can take:
1) Identify your strengths beyond your design skills. Cultivate those skills, lean into and leverage them in the workplace.
2) Get organized, create a calendar, and come up with a strategy that streamlines your work.
3) There is no shortage of ways to work on your growth: Find a podcast that challenges the way you think, take an online course to learn or improve a skill, find a mentor or hire a coach to help you reach your goals faster, or join a community in your niche working towards similar goals.
That’s how you can ask for more.
That’s how you will get more creative responsibility, freedom, money, and job satisfaction.
What’s 1 step you’ll be working towards?
