ASK ME ANYTHING

ASK ME ANYTHING

I attended a seminar recently, through the Ask Me Anything website, a producer I had been tracking was in the guest of honor, it was fun, informative and she was quite engaged. It got me to thinking and since they haven’t invited me yet, I wonder if I would get any traction from a post such as this?? In doing so I now have the excuse, or opportunity, to share my journey again and a bit more. So why not and here goes.

I have lived quite a few lives, I have moved around a lot, lived in small humble spaces and ostentatious dwellings, I have held many different jobs within my chosen profession as a filmmaker, but also outside of it. I have a long list of hobbies and ‘engaged tasks’: Essential endeavors instigated by the need to save a buck, with the ROI being that of knowledge and experience. I have many times engaged in and established community and camaraderie amongst various groups and organizations. I have pursued a career and continue to stay involved in many aspects of that career, whilst climbing the ladder of my definition of ‘success’.? Essentially I have learned A LOT, I continue to learn and I have a lot to share. I also have an opinion, my close friends all just gasped, ‘You? you don’t say!?’? But I’d like to think I am pretty fair and open minded. Perhaps that can depend on caffein intake and blood sugar, but just know it is always my intent to be open minded, with a willingness to learn. ?

So yeah, Ask Me Anything, or not…I am game. What topics you say? Starting a career - Cinematography - Home repair - Camera Operating - Auto repair - Directing - Raising kids - Screenwriting - Basic computing (Apple) - Recipes and Cooking - Editing (the art of) - Kombucha - Lighting - Patents - Filmmaking - Entrepreneurialism - Visual Effects - Practical Effects - Cycling - Grip and Electric - bicycle maintenance. I could probably offer some armchair psych advice on relationship counseling too.

All that stated, yes I have been fairly successful at all of the above, I have also made plenty of mistakes, taken the right path and the wrong path. If you have read a few of these posts, you may be getting a glimpse into who I might be, maybe not? I’d like to think I am projecting my willingness to support and be positive, to be kind and forthcoming, that I have an opinion of value. Seems anymore only people of status are entitled an opinion, see I have an opinion about an opinion, how about that? ?

Moving forward, I will share my biography or my bio as we call it, maybe because it’s still being written and biography seems so final.? HOT INSIDE TIP: On that same note and for you film geeks who seek out IMDB credits, more recently I had to delete some old credits from the 90’s to overcome IMDB’s algorithmic penchant to list our most obscure credits unless we pay a premium. In doing so, my latest feature is now featured front and center.?

While I was editing the above text, I learned that A. one of my websites was out of date and B. Question the point of posting my bio. I recognize that a handful of folks will see this through different optics than that of which I intend. Ultimately we all have a choice to make when seeing someones actions. I’d say with me, lean into more altruistic, because that is who I am at the core.?

On that note I invite others, on your own feeds and outreach to share your successes. Be boastful, but not arrogant, we have all earned our accomplishments, we should be encouraged to share them and celebrate them. Sure we can have friends family, managers and agents do that, but it seems, until you have achieved household name status, your accomplishments may not be known and even then still a mystery.? Additionally and rounding this up, those accomplishments are experiences and learning moments you can share.

?So please Boast and Share, you’ll be glad you did.
