Ask.
Dear Essentialists,
Let me tell you the story of Joanna Davey.
Joanna is a mother and a consultant from England who read Essentialism started asking one question every day: What's the most important thing I need to do today?
At first, the answers were all career-related. But one day her Dad called and said, "Your mother's in hospital but it's nothing serious. Don't bother coming dear: you have so much on your plate!"
She asked the magic question. And it was clear what she needed to do: drive the two-hours to the hospital to be with her mother.
When she got there she said, "Mum, I love you." Her mother replied, "I love you too!"
Within one hour her mother slipped into a coma; within a week she had passed away.
Joanna said, "It could have been different if I wasn't an Essentialist!" Listen to the rest of the story here.
The application this week is simple:
Write out the question "What is the most important thing I need to do?" and put it where you can read it every day.
This question is powerful. If you ask it every day it can change your life.
Joanna's story reminds all of us that: If you don't prioritize your life, someone else will.
Thank you, really, for reading for a minute today.
Greg
p.s. Thank you to Wende W. who wrote after listening to this episode, "Today's intervention with Joanna Davey was another home run."

4 年I can relate to Joanna's story completely. Unfortunately, I was not in a healthy work-life balance mindset when my mom became ill and I will carry that with me for the rest of my days. You truly only get one chance at this life, don't waste it chasing things that don't fulfill you or bring value to your life.

4 年Such a good message and actually by prioritising her own life this person really prioritised her mothers.
I show you invisible facts, you remarkably act.
