Our board of directors contains experts from across the industry dedicated to open-source, carrier-grade?#wifi?and?#broadband?CPE. We sat down with them and asked for some of their insight as to why they serve on the BoD.?David Barr is Director of Standards at MaxLinear. He founded and led the successful EasyMesh effort, now adopted and certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance. Here's what he had to say!

Why prpl Foundation? What do you find is valuable about you and your company’s participation???

As a System-on-a-Chip (SoC) manufacturer, our company values having a common open-source software stack that is readily portable to our next-gen state-of-art chipsets.? prplWare provides a clearly-defined and well-specified target for our software developers to work towards.? As a consequence, that speeds time-to-market for our newest products.? In fact, it speeds time-to-market for the entire ecosystem because everyone benefits from having the common core stack ready to be adapted for each new opportunity.

What experience do you bring to prpl Foundation’s Board of Directors?

I try to bring oversight, foresight & insight based on my experience with open standards and the communities that develop them.

What aspects of prpl Foundation’s plans for 2022 are you most excited about?

I am looking forward to deployments of prplOS and prplMesh by tier-1 ISPs.

What would you say to an organization that is considering a Prpl Foundation membership?

The prpl community is very welcoming–we are a healthy collaboration where the entire ecosystem is working quickly towards common goals.? Everyone understands we can bring the industry to a better place where we can all scale up our businesses to meet future challenges.
