Case Study: Can AR Boost New Product Awareness?
Like other tech sectors, it has spawned several sub-sectors that comprise an ecosystem. These include industrial AR,?consumer VR, and?AR shopping. Existing alongside all of them – and overlapping to some degree – is?AR marketing.
Among other things, AR marketing includes sponsored AR lenses that let consumers visualize products in their space. This field – including AR creation tools and ad placement – could grow from $4.7 billion in 2023 to $11.8 billion in 2028 according to?ARtillery Intelligence.
Factors propelling this growth include brand advertisers’ escalating affinity for, and recognition of, AR’s potential. More practically speaking, there’s a real business case. AR marketing campaigns continue to show strong?performance metrics?when compared with 2D benchmarks. (AR Insider)

Google Thinks It Can Cash In on Generative AI. Microsoft Already Has
While both Alphabet and Microsoft boasted strong quarterly earnings, only one tech giant showed that its generative AI bet is starting to pay off. Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai is confident that Google will find a way to make money selling access to?generative AI tools. Microsoft CEO?Satya Nadella says?his company is already doing it.
Both companies reported better-than-expected quarterly sales and profit on Thursday. And the stock prices of both soared on the results, with Alphabet further buoyed by its new plans to buy back more shares and issue its first-ever dividend.
But the near-term fortunes of Microsoft and Google, at least as far as their generative AI efforts are concerned, look different under the hood and in the comments of their executives. How investors, workers, and potential customers perceive the rivals’ dueling efforts could determine which gets the better chunk of the hundreds of billions of dollars in spending expected to flow to such software in the coming years. What actually is immersive marketing (and where is it headed next)?
The Drum Network recently hosted a panel of immersive marketing leaders with experiential shop Pixel Artworks. Obscenity, good art, ducks, elephants: it’s often hard to define a thing, but easier to say, “I know it when I see it.”

So it is with one of marketing’s present fascinations: ‘immersive’ experiences. With ‘experiential’ shops doing everything from conferences and trade shows to holograms and light shows, it can be hard to define what ‘experiential’ and ‘immersive’ really mean. Technology may not be everything in this space, but it has helped marketers to realize long-held ambitions, says Wrake. For a long time, “the technology wasn’t quite there to realize some of our concepts, but now it is… what we’re able to do is amazing.” From an advertising business point of view, our panel says that immersive and experiential are coming into a position of maturity, as we’re increasingly “treating it as the legitimate channel that it is, not a shiny new technology… it’s not a fad, it’s actually useful,” says Impero’s Willcocks. Coupled with 8th Wall’s Cloud Editor, this integration enables creators to construct compelling real-world WebAR experiences from within the very fabric of augmented reality itself. It’s a transformative approach, blending creation and experience into a seamless workflow that opens up new realms of productivity and innovation for developers.
To that end, here are four pros and four cons that developers can expect when diving into development with the Vision Pro headset. (AR Insider)
The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses have multimodal AI now
It can be handy, confidently wrong, and just plain finicky — but smart glasses are a much more comfortable form factor for this tech. hen the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses launched last fall, they were a pretty neat content capture tool and a surprisingly solid pair of headphones. But they were missing a key feature: multimodal AI. Basically, the ability for an AI assistant to process multiple types of information like photos, audio, and text. A few weeks after launch, Meta rolled out an early access program, but for everyone else, the wait is over. Multimodal AI is coming to everyone. The timing is uncanny. The Humane AI Pin just launched and bellyflopped with reviewers after a universally poor user experience. It’s been somewhat of a bad omen hanging over AI gadgets. But having futzed around a bit with the early access AI beta on the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses for the past few months, it’s a bit premature to completely write this class of gadget off. (The Verge)
Quest 3's Space Setup gained an undocumented superpower
Meta Quest 3 can now identify and label furniture and other furnishings, making it much easier to set up rooms for mixed reality. Unlike previous Quest headsets, Quest 3 has a depth sensor that can be used to create a 3D scan of your environment. This feature is called "Space Setup" and can be found under Settings > Physical Space. The digital duplicate of your home provides spatial information that makes mixed reality apps more realistic by enabling object occlusion and collision or special lighting effects. (Mixed News)
