ARTVERONA | Artwork of the day
Following the theme of the artwork of the day, on the occasion of the upcoming opening of ArtVerona, Cortesi Gallery is pleased to present the second masterpiece of this week, moving from the abstract painting of Piero Dorazio to sculpture. This different artistic technique is represented by another artist who, together with Dorazio, was an exponent of Gruppo Forma 1 in the late 1940s in Rome: Pietro Consagra.
Pietro Consagra, Diario, 1961, bronze, 36 x 36 x 3 cm, ed. of 6
Pietro Consagra was one of the most important Italian sculptors of the post-war period. His work rejected the traditional idea of three-dimensional sculpture, replacing it with a more direct interaction between art and viewer. His interest is to free sculpture from the weight of historical heritage, working with bronze and iron to create almost two-dimensional sculptures. This way, a much more open frontal view is focused between the work and the viewer.
