1. PACESETTERS Kick-off meeting on March 11
Are you curious about how arts and culture cannot only adapt to the climate crisis but drive a transition towards sustainable and regenerative economies?
On Monday 11 March, we will launch a new research project with high ambitions: PACESETTERS Project will explore not only the theoretical but also the practical potential of art and culture, heritage and creativity to become a key driver of the climate transition. NTNU’s Academy of Fine Art will coordinate this Horizon Europe funded Research and Innovation Action. Engaging 15 partners from across Europe the project investigates how to unlock untapped innovation potentials off the beaten track.
PACESETTERS will set out to create knowledge from collaborative, artistic and practice-based research to keep pace with the transition. It will propose and stress test innovative and sustainable ideas across creative disciplines to set the pace of the transition. Finally, it will assess strategies of future valorisation to push the pace of the transition.
The Kick-off meeting includes a public event on March 11 at 1800 CET. Project participants and invited guests will present concepts for a terminology of the transition. This will be the basis for a visual lexicon of terms that allow us to keep the pace, set the pace, and push the pace of transformation. Please join us in person or remotely by registering here.
After the Kick-off in mid-March, PACESETTERS will launch an Open Call for Advanced Practices, as the basis for the work on the creative case studies. Please stay tuned and spread the word!

4. SAR International Forum on Artistic Research 2024
15th International Conference on Artistic Research
The SAR International Forum on Artistic Research will take place from April 10th to 11th 2024, hosted by Fontys Academy of the Arts in Tilburg. This year the Society for Artistic Research (SAR) introduces a new biennial meeting format, that offers time and space for thought-provoking and stimulating dialogue between artistic researchers, artists, practitioners, as well as policy makers and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. The Forum 2024 co-developed by Fontys and SAR to be a new and innovative biennial format, that will alternate with the already established SAR conferences. Instead of the traditional keynote speech, the Forum will host three focus sessions in the afternoon of the first day. These sessions aim to address, explore, and negotiate challenges, visions, and opportunities for artistic research in contemporary society. In particular critical issues and questions that relate to:
Fontys and SAR invite both established experts and emerging voices in the field of artistic research to actively participate, share their insights and practice, and imagine the central role of artistic research in addressing the societal challenges of our time. Newly formed connections and the building of community relationships will shape the future of and for artistic research.
