Artisan 4.0?
The Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) is here to stay. It changes our work and the way we work. Everything is more digital.
The work of ordinary shop-floor engineering artisans is also touched. As first-line technicians/repairers/maintainers/installers of equipment connected to the digital world, they are, or at least should be, driving this change.
The content of their curricula should change to be in step with these changes, brought about by IR4.0, but is it?
They way they are trained should also change. Our delivery of Artisan training should reflect the digital world of work they ought to be prepared for. The delivery should be more digital and the design of that delivery should be based on the latest educational science.
I found the insights from the University of London’s Knowledge Lab very useful in this regard. These insights should be used in the design of our blended delivery of new artisan curricula.
At CTC we call the product and the process Artisan 4.0?.
