Artis Cambii - a vacation post about banks
I am on vacation visiting Umbria. I visited the most "beautiful bank" in the world which is called "Collegio del Cambio".
The Collegio del Cambio, is the historic seat of the?exchange guild?in the Palazzo dei Priori in the city of Perugia, Italy. It was built between 1452 and 1457.
In the 15th Century, politicians were building the City Hall in Perugia. They needed money to finish the building, and the bankers told them that they will provide this if they allow them to build a bank inside de City Hall.
In this way, they built this bank, a beautiful piece of art in itself, painted by the most famous painter of those days, whose name was Perugino. He was the teacher of Rafaello.
The Bankers created this beautiful place to inspire trust, and through the paintings to convince the people to use their services to exchange and store money. The bankers had a guild, called ARTIS CAMBII "the art of exchanging " money. This place inspired me and made me think about all the banking failures these days, and also think about my banker friends, It is true, these days also Banking is an Art.
Banking was and is essential for the business in general, so aside of criticizing these organizations we also have to admire the art of the business of the good banks.
All the best to all my banker and banking technology friends!
