#artificialintelligence #78 How to set up an AI Lab for manufacturing

Welcome to #artificialintelligence #78

We are nearing a milestone of 60K subscribers!?

Thanks for your support?

This newsletter has been delayed by a day because I was in Istanbul at MEXT?

MEXT one of our new partners and speakers at the Artificial Intelligence: Cloud and Edge Implementations course?

MEXT is an amazing centre for smart manufacturing technology?

This partnership benefits our students both from availability of data but also real operational use cases for AI and manufacturing?

As we see from the videos below, there are many cases (such as the Boston dynamics dog) from which we can get data for AI and simulations

Here, I also shared my views on how to create an AI Lab for manufacturing

The word 'AI lab' is used widely in different contexts

But in my view, AI labs have a specific meaning depending on the context

For example, an Al lab for manufacturing would be distinctly different from AI labs for other verticals

Also, there is a balance between hardware, AI(algorithms) and other factors

However, there are some common factors

  • AI labs should be based for prototyping new ideas
  • AI labs should focus on skills
  • AI labs should engage with industry?

In my view, here are some ideas we have been focusing on at the #universityoxford on the subject of AI and manufacturing

  • The use of synthetic data
  • The application of pre-trained models?
  • AR VR in manufacturing especially for training
  • Causal / root cause analysis in manufacturing?
  • Cobots?
  • Autonomous robots
  • 5g in manufacturing
  • Simulation
  • Standards such as SIRI (Smart industry readiness index)
  • Data for Anomaly or defect use cases
  • Ability to translate domain knowledge into AI such as? Microsoft Bonsai
  • Low code approaches
  • Explainability?
  • Responsible AI
  • Building blocks approach as we see in simulink
  • Reinforcement learning as a modelling technique
  • Complex event processing?
  • Physics based modelling vs algorithmic modelling

What else do we think we need for a manufacturing based AI lab?

Below are some of the videos from my visit which I will be exploring further?

I am pleased about the opportunities this will give to our students
