#artificialintelligence #139: Making the academic publishing model more inclusive to professionals from the industry

Hello all

Background

The Erdos research labs has been a passion project for me. It is now open for applications. The academic publication model is broken.

The aim is to make the academic publishing model more inclusive to professionals from outside traditional academia i.e. from industry.

As I shared in my previous posts

a) We aim to create an AI first institution based on research and intelligent conversations

b) A belief that the academic publishing model is broken and another system if needed to be more inclusive

c) A Kaggle like model for research

d) Conducting research without a PhD catering for people in companies who aspire to conduct research.

e) Conduct interdisciplinary, collaborative research to further your career

f) We focus on two groups: researchers and teachers

g) the most important part is intelligent conversations - much on the lines of Erdos himself i.e. my brain is open.

Benefits

1) You get to showcase your research and build your brand

2) You can engage with the best in the world for AI research

3) Opportunities for interdisciplinary AI research

How it works

The overall problem is:

How to collaborate with an expert to write a paper? - where the agent is modelled on a real AI expert (such as from MIT, Oxford etc)

The interface could be like character.ai https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Character.ai

1) Choose a theme

2) Choose an expert to collaborate with (modelled as a persona created by a real expert)

3) Create a cohort of participants

4) Collaborate with the expert and your cohort to write a paper

5) Publish the paper in the community

6) Peer reviewed by the community and also the agent / AI itself

Of course, the creation of the agent is a complex problem, which I have been working on for a while - but the usage of such an agent based on an expert would help create collaborative knowledge in the community.

There is no cost for the first cohorts. However, these will be selective since we already have a lot of applicants ?

Transdisciplinary research is the need of the hour. Industries should fund academia and ,government should not restrict too much in giving the fund to private college teachers who are underutilized. The restrictions make the delay in progress as far as research is concerned. There are lot of intelligent teachers available in private organizations were they are not being funded by the government. The government sector things move in a snails pace.
