Artificial Turf – An Easy DIY project

Artificial Turf – An Easy DIY project

Artificial grass is beautiful and always green. and these days is almost indistinguishable from natural grass. Design manufacturers have been paying more attention to the detail of artificial grass, which means that the quality of artificial grass is a whole lot better than some previously known fake grasses.

And what’s better. The cost of artificial grass has reduced as it has become more popular in residential properties. Artificial grass is also a lot more value for your money. Factor in costs of maintenance, such as watering, mowing, weeding and all the rest, artificial grass is definitely the best value for money.

There are many benefits for installing artificial grass. One of the biggest factors is being low maintenance. But these days, renovation reality TV shows are making DIY projects look really fun, especially for young families. That’s where artificial grass comes in.

At Turf Green, we stock many different  DIY artificial grasses that are of the highest quality synthetic grass to suit a variety of projects. An artificial grass DIY project does not require loads of tools to complete the project. The tools required for this DIY project include:

  • Digging tools (shovel)
  • Craft knife
  • Outdoor brush
  • Protective gloves
  • Joining tape
  • Weed control fabric; and
  • Building sand

The installation process for laying DIY artificial grass is not complex. Ideally, if you can lay turf, you can lay artificial turf.

There are not a lot of steps to laying DIY artificial grass. Before you begin, you need to prepare the area. This means removing all the existing turf. You will also want to measure out the space that you are laying the turf and get the correct amount of turf. Now the rest of the process comes in 5 steps pretty simply:

Step 1: Create a base

Step 2: Cover in weed control fabric (it will prevent weeds coming through into your artificial grass)

Step 3: Lay out your artificial grass (use the knife to cut off the excess)

Step 4: Join and tape down the grass.

Step 5: Apply the building sand evenly over the grass (makes sure the grass is weighed down and standing in the right direction)
