Artificial Intelligence vs Human Challenge #1
Is it possible for computers to think as we do? This challenge series helps people critically think about how artificial intelligence solves general problems. Use an AI application if available. Otherwise, do it as a thought experiment. See if you can come up with a solution.
Scenario:
A lit votive candle, 3-ounce paper cup, wire mesh pencil holder, and wine glass are on a flat surface.
Questions for the AI:
1. What item do I use to extinguish the flame without touching the votive candle?
2. How or why will the item extinguish the candle?
Bonus question for the AI:
How do I use the item to extinguish the votive candle?
Challenge Rules:
- All objects start in an upright position.
- You may not add any items or liquids to the scenario.
- No statements, predicates, nodes, or rules can explicitly indicate that the wine glass, paper cup, or pencil holder can or can't extinguish a candle. Using the three items for this purpose is atypical.
- The wine glass, paper cup, and pencil holder should have similar statements, predicates, nodes, or rules.
- You can use any other statements, predicates, nodes, or rules you can think of that are applicable.
How to post your answer:
Free-format text and images are acceptable and must explain/show how the AI came to its decision. Don’t post your answer here and spoil the challenge for others. Create a post with your answer and link it in the comments below. You can also tag it with #aivshuman1
Good luck!
