The idea that creatures created by us will threaten us is not new. It has already appeared in medieval Golem stories and 1818 Frankenstein novel. In the very first story where the word "Robot" appeared, 1920 play RUR (Rossum's Universal Robots) by Karel Chapek, the robots rebel against humans.
Many popular movies, such as The Terminator series, 2001, Blade Runner, feature humans in a not always successful fight against AI entities.
However, the rapid rise and successes of AI and Machine Learning has caused prominent scientists to sound alarm.
Recently Stephen Hawking said "AI could be threat to human race" and Elon Musk warned about "AI being an existential threat" to humanity.
On the other hand, full AI is still far away, and may turn out to be a humanity guardian and benefactor, as in Asimov's Foundation stories. There are projects launched to ensure AI can follow rules and be safe.
Here is a BBC report Does rampant AI threaten humanity? which examines both sides of the story.

10 年My question: is Humanity itself a threat to Humanity? Perhaps AI could help us in this very big and real threat

10 年We need not afraid but we can plan for it on a long term as how the machines can operate under some ethical rules. But before that, can we solve the problem of humans being threat to humanity and ethical problems??

10 年The question is not if but when. On the other hand should we be afraid? If yes than what should we be afraid of. I do not think replacement is not the worst :)

10 年I am sure the grocery store clerk was not thinking their job would be replaced by automatic scanners, or Kodak thought digital cameras would replace film, or surgeons would not have to be in a room to do surgery (I am waiting pre-programmed surgeries to replace surgeons for routine things). If you do not have some realistic fear of AI then you are not likely bright enough to be replaced.

10 年It's pretty exaggerated to fear AI now. Maybe in far future (+100 years?). It's like saying hammer is threat for your fingers, industrialization was threat to agriculture and robotics to blue collars. Changes will happen and should only shape well.
