Artificial Intelligence

With evolution of computing systems and reduction in hardware cost theories and concepts are getting into reality.   Artificial intelligence, neural networks, Robotics are no more just white papers and imaginations.   We are not far away from the day when we can see robots walking on the streets.  Yes, we would see robots soon but will they be able to match human intelligence? or it will take centuries to see a machine that can be certified as "AI inside".

To understand what is AI, let's go back to 1955 when John Mccarthy coined this term. 1955 proposal defines seven areas of AI as below:

  1. Simulating higher functions of human brain
  2. Programming a computer to use general language
  3. Arranging hypothetical neurons in a manner so that they can form a concept
  4. Way to determine and measure problem complexity
  5. Self improvement
  6. Abstraction: Dealing with ideas rather than events
  7. Randomness and creativity

To some extent today we are able to achieve #3,#4 and #5, but there is a long way to go. It will be interesting to see if technology can move fast enough to built a machine that can match human intelligence.

Interesting, but shall we give it a thought, whether we need #6 &7 ?
