A new generation of low-code, no-code and developer autocomplete tools is on the horizon.
Hello Everyone,
I’m interested in how machine learning will augment the role of software developers and engineers and help them?be more productive ?and even improve their well-being. After all, there’s no evidence the demand for software programmers and developers is dying down any time soon.
In fact, many startups thrive in periods of a relative economic slowdown and recession. Engineers are on the front lines of innovation in our technological societies, and software will continue to eat the world, hopefully in a good way!
What is the demand for software engineers and developers in the U.S.? According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for software developers, including software engineers, will increase to?22%?between 2022 and 2030. This percentage is almost 4% more than the growth of average careers.
However let me go out on a whim here and feel free to disagree with me.

We are approaching a time when the?software that eats the world ?is going to be upgraded by A.I.
Whether it’s?Microsoft’s Github Copilot? or something else, it’s already begun. A brave new world of low-code, no-code platforms and tools that augment the role of software developers is going to be drastically different.
The way so many of our jobs will be impacted by machine learning is slowly starting to come into view.
Will A.I. Unmake Coding?
The reality is in the 2020s, more software developer roles will become increasingly A.I. dependent. It’s hard to foresee this completely in 2022.
If coding made A.I., will A.I. unmake coding and change the future profession of software engineers? This is one of the most fascinating questions of our time, and while it may be true sometime in the future, it could take a few more decades in real-time to actually occur.

2 年AI code assist is already being used. AlphaTensor was just released - generates provable algorithms. There is no question that automated coding will significantly alter the coding landscape. However, humans will always be required to drive the process. Even after we develop fully autonomous AGI humans will still play important roles on the programming team.

2 年I had this thought before and believe, like yourself, that at some point (not in our lifetime) that AI will eventually replace developers. I think we are finally getting close. 10-20 years before we start making movies that are almost real and maybe another 50 before we can't tell at all. I digress. AI is notwhere near what we want it to be. AI chat is still garbage..it's basically an interactive (fancy) FAQ. That's not AI...that's just automation. AI is not ready for anything yet and it will take years before we actually put something together. If you're going to bring up WATSON....it's not that great and it's more of an analytical number crunching machine that uses analytics to predict, which I do not consider it "intelligence". The good news is that once we get to AI that can code, they will also be self healing an will be able to debug themselves or alter code to best fit the environment they are in.

2 年Michael Spencer. AI will replace all but the cream of software devs. As you may be are aware my AI based tech cert body, GQA on-line is courting controversy - https://www.gqauk.org/post/the-new-concept-in-iso-certification-is-here . The QMS consultants and cert bodies use an easy line of attack - using the fact that we are not UKAS - we cannot be until we are ready to blow the industry wide open. The fact is we are designing the code to follow the international standard. The MLC will continue to learn and transcend language barriers and the the engine will outgrow the coding team and the consultants. We are already aware that the 'ISO Flow and Go' brain will create suggested best management practices for industries within quality, environmental, health and data security.
