With the rise of Chat GPT and several Artificial Intelligence(A.I) tools, there has been a plethora of predictions that content writers would be replaced by Artificial Intelligence. In other words, writers should possibly consider a career in programming or the like because they are about to be out of jobs. At some point, I started searching for a safe career path so I can make the switch. I was very scared honestly. Who would not be? In this article, I will share my thoughts about Artificial Intelligence and content writing. Also, I will show you what you can do to improve as a writer, especially in our constantly evolving world.
A tool like Chat GPT can churn out blog content in minutes. With it, research is very easy. Keyword research is now easy, thanks to A.I. You don't have to think for hours to get content ideas. As a matter of fact, with A.I, you can generate ten different blog topics from one content idea.
Here is the thing. Chat GPT will replace some writers. It's not just going to happen to writers alone. A.I is changing the world of work in every field and industry.
Let's talk a bit about humans vs AI.
With AI, you can produce ten search engine-optimized long-form articles daily, throughout the week at little cost. You may not be able to achieve that feat easily as a human being.
AI is very reliable compared to humans.
Life does not happen to it. It doesn't get ill. It doesn't have children that can develop running stomachs in the morning or an emergency that requires immediate hospital attention. It doesn't go on leave, nor, does it have family emergencies that can affect its productivity at work to attend to. If I continue talking about what A.I can do that you can't do within a particular time frame with ease as a human being, this article will be longer than it should be.
You need to understand that A.I is here to stay. The solution is not to switch careers or to find a safer career path. This is because sooner or later, the world of work in that field will evolve.
Think about this for a second. Before the introduction of Grammarly, you depended on your knowledge of English grammar for writing an error-free article, essay, or the like. As an undergraduate, I wrote my B.A thesis of over 27,000 words in a matter of weeks.
Imagine what it is like to edit that kind of document within a little time frame while juggling quizzes, exams, and presentations. I completed the editing in a matter of hours. I didn't have to sit down for a line-by-line spell check. Grammarly identifies all of that, including the ones I may skip, and give updated suggestions. All I had to do was to accept the suggestions.
That way, I juggled writing my undergraduate Thesis, school work, and other things effectively. Grammarly and several A. I tools made writing my project easy. My work was never rejected by my supervisor for plagiarism. I saved myself from embarrassment and used a plagiarism checker.
A.I is here to make life easier, but, it is changing the way things are done. Grammarly and Quill bot didn't replace all content writers. Those who stuck to the traditional way of writing and refused to understand how it works were replaced. Those who took steps to adapt by understanding how it works have used it to position themselves as valuable productive writers.
To avoid being replaced or losing your job in a constantly evolving world, do these five things consistently and you will be top of your game.
Five things you can do to future-proof your career as a writer
1. Learn how to use A. I tools
A.I. is a tool. It's an aid developed to make your easier, and help you to work efficiently and effectively. With A. I you won't have to do everything. You can focus on the most important aspect and allow it to assist you for the rest.
To leverage it for career growth, you need to learn how to use it. To do that, invest in Knowledge. Understand how the tool works and how to use them. Then, use them. Trying it out will help you to practically know what it can do for you, what you can outsource to it, and what you have to do yourself.
A month ago, I used Chat GPT to write articles for a client. It produced four blog posts in minutes but I noticed that it just regurgitated what someone else had written meaning that the articles were plagiarized. If I didn't check that, I would have submitted plagiarized articles to my client. There were also some errors here and there. I needed to make some changes. I understood the tool better and learned about its limitations.
2. Invest in your brain.
Your brain is the greatest A. I in human history. Invest in it. Nurture your creativity. Feed your brain with the right content. Don't feed it with garbage. If you do, you will get garbage out of it. To feed your brain with the right content, you have got to be intentional about it. Protect what enters your mind through gates like your eyes and your ears. Surround yourself with valuable people. Valuable people cover intelligently. Take care of your brain. Practice meditation and the like.
3. Add value to yourself.
Yes, I know you can write excellent blog posts, but is that all that you can do? Consider adding marketing and sales to your stack. If you are not interested in marketing or sales, find something and add to it. I will advise you to add a closely related skill. That way, you won't be to begin from scratch to learn anything. Instead of starting from scratch, you will be building from the foundations you have laid already.
This year, I took a step toward learning marketing. It's not an easy one but I am happily doing it. I will share my journey in the coming weeks. Recently, I found a mentor willing to mentor me in the field.
This is after four failed attempts to get scholarships to learn marketing from a credible source. I am happy. I am adding value to myself.
4. Study the trends yourself.
Now is the best time to know what is happening in your industry. Do your research. That sounds redundant, right? I mean if you are conducting research yourself, you are doing it by yourself. So, what is the essence of adding "own" to the statement?
Repetition is for emphasis. If you don't conduct personal research, you will fall for copywriters and course sellers after your money and their pockets. You won't be able to develop a personal adaptation plan that suits your needs. Conducting personal research will give you the chance to filter the noise and work with the information.
I know research is not a walk in the Park, but you can do it. If you can't, consider joining quality circles in your field. They are usually not free.
5. Invest in your craft
A.I. is great but it lacks empathy and to an extent creativity. You need empathy and creativity to restructure your content in a way that makes the content resonate with your audience and their target needs. I shared some personal stories here. You can relate to them because it's a human experience. Honing your craft will enable you to utilize A.I took to write resonating content.
I want you to win. Take steps proactively to guard your source of income. Create time to develop yourself. If you don't, you will be laid off once you stop meeting KPIs or for some other reasons.
Be valuable. If you are a founder or business owner, consider the customer's needs first. Look at how you can meet the customer's needs at little cost. Tech, A. I make this possible. Don't run away from it or pray that someday you will wake up to its disappearance because it won't disappear. Business owners and career professionals that don't adapt will one day wake up to their irrelevance.
I believe in you the same way I believe in myself. I hope this article was helpful.

1 年Thanks for sharing Amarachukwu Awaeze ?? It's really encouraging reading this. A revolution is taking place and it's not the first time something of this magnitude has happened. The different industrial revolutions are very good examples to study. A man that refused to switch from craft making to the use of machines during the first industrial revolution became useless and would've fallen off the map financially. The ability to learn new things is a gift that everyone that wants to succeed in this age must have. Things are changing fast but we're not watching the plane take off, rather we're in first class on the flight.
