The term that originated as a dream for many has now become a reality. Machines now have an identity of their own, (quite literally!) stretching out to having privileges that even us humans don’t. However, AI is just not about robots and machines. We humans are becoming increasingly dependent on artificially devised technology. Is it a good thing or not is what matters.

They say too much of anything is harmful. Stephen Hawking‘s words, “The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of human race” is just another statement that reveals the wrong we could be committing by going all out with respect to AI. I would like to quote an example to prove how dangerous AI could get- recently Facebook gave up its artificial intelligence program. Why? Because the program grew powerful enough to formulate its own language, a language unknown to mankind. It’s shocking yet true. If a program could formulate its own language, it scares me to even think of the possible consequences any other artificially designed model could do let alone robots!

With the use of artificial intelligence in farms, farmers are able to grow better crops efficiently and effectively. Alexa’s smart home’s hub has also been a notable achievement. Pandora’s AI, also called the musical DNA, is one of the most revolutionary techs that have been introduced. Use of artificial intelligence is quite popular in the entertainment industry.

Once again we come to a point which makes us think ... AI a boon or a bane?

I feel A.J Bezzerides has perfectly summed up the entire situation-

“First you find a little thread, a little thread leads you to a string and the string leads you to a rope. And from the rope you hang by the neck.”
