Will Artificial intelligence and machine learning adoption among gaming companies accelerate following Sony’s move?
Sony has announced, in its recent corporate report, the ambitious plan to fully integrate artificial intelligence and machine learning into the game development process of PlayStation. Advanced technologies shall quicken the production timeline with quality delivery, thus placing the company at the cutting edge of innovation in the gaming world.??
The tech giant would improve the development of games by having recourse to real-time 3D processing technology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. All these tools will empower developers to maximise the value of their intellectual property by producing content more efficiently while delivering it to a broader audience at lower costs.
The machine learning application can relate to the production of Spider Man 2 which allowed the production of synchronised subtitles with a character's dialogue in different languages via voice recognition software. The company reduced the amount of time typically required for subtitling, which created new heights in game production.
The company is also building its Volumetric Capture Studio, which will take high-quality data in a 3D format captured from real-world people and places. This studio is supposed to supply 3D assets, including motion data, across a few titles on PlayStation and possibly sell those assets externally.
For example, Sony is currently collaborating with Epic Games to utilise the Unreal Engine for real-time processing in 3D. The PlayStation reused some of the 3DCG elements used in a virtual production music video for one of its recent productions and implemented them to create a video game environment, showing how AI-powered tools can bring in media formats and enhance cross-functional productions.
Sony’s latest move reflects the growing momentum of artificial intelligence/machine learning and its wider application in the gaming industry. Companies are proactively exploring this technology front in a bid to enhance user experience as well as elevate gameplay experiences.?
This could revolutionize game production as it could add new layers of gameplay experiences, and it could significantly fast track the production of games.?
