Artificial Intelligence, the Fight Against AD Blockers, Robots, and Hi-Tech

Artificial Intelligence, the Fight Against AD Blockers, Robots, and Hi-Tech

To say that August passed quietly and calmly would be a lie.

It hasn't been such an eventful month for a long time.

The crash of Windows, the destruction of related systems and networks, and the shutdown of stock exchanges shook the world. Some things were dropped out of the picture, but have not lost their value for the IT industry.

Today, you will learn about such global events:

  • New opportunities for people with reduced mobility.
  • Cheating by Nvidia.
  • Manifest V3 as a new round of confrontation between Google and AD Blockers.
  • Microsoft vs. Delta: a $500 million problem.
  • Pacemaker for the brain against Parkinson's.
  • G1 from Unitree to every home.
  • A wave of layoffs, this time from General Motors.
  • Increasing water consumption through AI.

As well as news from the life of the AdvantISS team:

  • Finance Management Module for ERP System.
  • The milestone of 1000 readers has been passed.
  • New insight from the CEO.

New Opportunities for People With Reduced Mobility

In July, the world was shaken by the news of a paralyzed gamer with a neuroimplant. It seems that Synchron has now taken the next step in overcoming some limitations.

Thus, the manufacturer's brain-computer interface (BCI) can now be combined with Apple Vision Pro.

What does this mean in practice? Let's say a person gets the opportunity to travel virtually, manage content viewing, or even play solitaire.

This is not an ideal case, but it is a significant step forward in exploring the potential of technology's role in restoring human capabilities lost due to paralysis, etc.

Cheating by Nvidia

Artists from all over the world, bloggers, and celebrities have been accusing AI researchers and developers of shady use of their resources for the development of LLMs and ML for more than a year.

This month, Nvidia came under the gun, with its high-ranking management and employees seriously discussing the possibility of using MKBHD and Netflix videos for AI training.

There is no reaction from the copyright holders yet, but we have no doubt that we will soon witness another major scandal in the tech world.

Manifest V3 as a New Round of Confrontation Between Google and AD Blockers

Hey, those who like to watch YouTube without Premium and adverts at the same time, it will soon become an impossible task. Okay, it's not that bad, especially if you use any browser other than Chrome.

Google's Manifest V3 for Chrome aims to streamline the architecture of extensions, making them more secure and confidential. The changes also affect the webRequest API, which is transformed into the declarativeNetRequest API.

However, most third-party browser developers (including those based on Chromium) have already stated that they will not remove support for Manifest V2 and will discontinue the webRequest API for the new architecture if possible.

Microsoft vs. Delta: a $500 Million Problem

Last month, CrowdStrike caused large-scale failures in corporate systems based on Microsoft products. The problem was promptly fixed, but no one compensated for the losses.

In fact, the airline Delta estimated the losses at $500 million and is apparently going to sue.

Interestingly, Delta rejected at all levels Microsoft's offers to help with the debugging of the systems for free. The story doesn't end there, so we may cover its results in the next digest.

A Pacemaker for the Brain Against Parkinson's

There is hardly any need to explain the peculiarities of Parkinson's disease and its impact on people, their health, behavior, and mobility. Sean Connolly, erstwhile a world-renowned skateboarder and now a patient with a brain pacemaker, has experienced all of this.

Interestingly, personalized adaptive brain stimulation through a neuroimplant has indeed put Mr. Connolly back on the wheels. Moreover, Mr. Connolly has resumed teaching children and is feeling much better overall.

The study proved the effectiveness of adaptive brain stimulation with implants in Parkinson's disease. However, according to the researchers themselves, no really significant results have been achieved yet, so the work continues, and Mr. Connolly's success is inspiring.

G1 From Unitree to Every Home

Have you ever pondered the idea of having your own robot? Well, save up $16,000 and order one. Yes, mass production is about to start (if there is market demand, of course).

Unitree's G1 is a humanoid robot controlled by artificial intelligence. The demonstration model impressed visitors to the brand's event with its capabilities.

The robot can perform a wide range of different tasks and help with household chores. It perfectly navigates in space and identifies objects. The current autonomy is two hours of intensive work.

A Wave of Layoffs, This Time From General Motors

The reasons for the layoffs of more than 1,000 employees are officially cited as optimizing operations and denied being related to cost-cutting (by about $2 billion).

It is noted that technical specialists, such as developers and service workers, have been laid off. At the same time, innovation and technology remain the main segment of the brand's investments.

Increasing Water Consumption Through AI

Recent studies have shown that water consumption in Virginia increased from 1.13 billion gallons to 1.85 billion gallons between 2019 and 2023.

The reason for this is the high concentration of data centers in the region. Data centers are cooled by water, or rather, by the resource-intensive equipment that is housed in them.

Recycling water in a closed cycle? An option, but part of it evaporates anyway, so you have to make amends for the absence of coolant from the original sources.

AdvantISS Updates

Finance Management Module for ERP System

Businesses do not always need large-scale projects. Sometimes, compact but functional modules for existing systems can meet the needs. This was the case with one of our clients.

The AdvantISS team upgraded the construction company's ERP system by adding a financial module. It is designed not only for invoicing and payment processing but also for calculating project costs, etc.

Find out more details from our new case study on this project.
