Artificial Intelligence in the Disciplines and Learning and Teaching.

Back in the 1950s, the fathers of the field Minsky and McCarthy, described artificial intelligence (#ai) as any task performed by a program or a machine that, if a human carried out the same activity, we would say the human had to apply intelligence to accomplish the task.

Artificial intelligence systems will typically demonstrate at least some of the following behaviours associated with human intelligence: ?planning, learning, reasoning, problem solving, perception and to a lesser extent, social intelligence, and creativity.

Artificial intelligence is ubiquitous today – it is used to recommend what you should buy next online, to understand what you say to virtual assistants such as Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri, to recognise who and what is in a photo, to spot spam, or detect credit card fraud.

For a scientific endeavour which is about 70 years old one may wonder why one new form of AI created so much interest. For lovers of movies, one may wonder if the impact of AI is best captured by “The good, the bad and the ugly” or “Everything, everywhere, all at once.”??One thing is for sure … “#ChatGPT” is on the way to be word of the year 2023!

As a way to explore the diversity of influence of Artificial Intelligence senior staff at the Education Centre of Australia – Higher Education conducted a Learning and Teaching Forum with a focus on “Artificial Intelligence in the Disciplines and Learning and Teaching.”?The disciplines included Information Technology, Project Management, Healthcare and Education. The very engaging forum is shared on YouTube and is separated into the introduction and four smaller videos which focus on the different disciplines.
