Artificial Intelligence (AI), Personalization And Optimization

Imagine a household of 8 in Africa, going about their work in a coffee shamba. How can such a family pro-actively utilize AI?

AI is here to stay but we need to make the hay, know the hype, go with the hip-hop and capture the heat of the moment. Political polarization needs to see AI as an emerging public good.

Two interface experiences can get us there.

Optimization connects experience and utility. Utility is based on contexts that enable us to use of data which is a result of reacting to one's stimulus or stimuli.

Personalization follows the interface between stimulation and experiencing the outcome of reaction. This leads to control of which manifests as navigation skills so that one gets the most out of the experience of outcome/s.

The skills are channels for creating themes so that one has a perpetual grip on issues. Any individual skills is one way of positing a pitch for the moment.

The pitch in turn sets the tone through which one is stimulated into engagement. Engagement catalyzes awareness and consequential emotions. The emotions hook us into processes which call for indulgence or aversion.

One way of making AI relatable is through breaking it down into themes, pitches, stimulants for engagement (or disengagement), inform awareness and emotions.

There is your hay, hype, hip-hop and heat of the moment. Such a family has to be empowered to separate the hay, the hype, hip-hop and the heat. Computer literacy is still low in Africa. In a world where the term "consciousness" has been weaponized, how can we popularise "AI consciousness," and not seem to be anti-establishment, leftist, rightist, neutral or not neutral?

It's becoming clear that with all the brain and consciousness theories out there, the proof will be in the pudding. By this I mean, can any particular theory be used to create a human adult level conscious machine. My bet is on the late Gerald Edelman's Extended Theory of Neuronal Group Selection. The lead group in robotics based on this theory is the Neurorobotics Lab at UC at Irvine. Dr. Edelman distinguished between primary consciousness, which came first in evolution, and that humans share with other conscious animals, and higher order consciousness, which came to only humans with the acquisition of language. A machine with only primary consciousness will probably have to come first. https://arxiv.org/abs/2105.10461

Yo, let's keep it real about rural Africa's AI game - breaking it down right makes all the difference. It's political, but should be seen as a public asset. Tom Muyunga-Mukasa APHA, APSA
