Artificial Intelligence (AI) is NOT only Robot

In general, we’ve an interesting misconception about AI and the Robots. Whenever we hear or read anything about AI then the only thing we visualize is - the T850 Terminator robot is running after John Connor or Bumble Bee transformer robot becomes intelligent enough to urinate in your driveway (gasoline though). Just saying! But is this what the AI is? May be we’ve gone too far into the future or missing to connect all the dots.

AI, one of the most passionate and oversold world in the current tech bazar. But its not limited to robots only. AI computer program can identify your emotion in a video and photo by running complex computer algorithm, understand facial expressions and use machine learning to provide a score for that expression. The score determines if you are happy, sad, stressed out or angry. Anyone can create an application and can use this Face API or Emotion API for fun.      

When you talk to Apple Siri, Microsoft Cortana, Alexa etc. it not only recognizes your voice but also tries to understand your mood based on your in vocal frequency fluctuation pattern. More interestingly the lexical analyzer can guess your sentiment based on the words you write in your text message. Its called sentiment analysis. The lexical analyzer breaks down the sentences and searches for words that matches any intent in the AI knowledge base. Microsoft, Google and Amazon etc. are the top contributors in AI research and development. Microsoft LUIS – Language Understanding Intelligent Service searches for the intent of the sentence and responses back through a chatbot. Have you ever used automated chatbot or voice assistant? Probably yes. So this is the AI work behind the automated chatbot you talk to.

Lets jump into banking and financial sectors. World’s top financial companies Bloomberg, Deloitte, JP Morgan and other hedge fund companies, they all use AI systems to analyze their data. But what do they do with it actually? If AI is just an electro-mechanical robot then what purpose it can serve. These companies use AI and machine learning to predict the future investment. Machine learning and deep learning are trained to learn about the data of the financial market, finds the trend in the business and AI assists in taking the final decision.   

Nowadays AI is everywhere. May be its looking for anomalies in distance galaxy stars somewhere in NASA space stations or may be on the other end its searching for your best match in Tinder app. NYC traffic system may be using AI to reduce the traffic for Halloween night in NYC or may be somewhere a startup company is trying to build an AI solution that can find the happiest blocks in their city. Who knows!

Along with the bright sides of the sun there are also dark sides of the moon. Misusing AI to create cyber security threat to any information system can also bring chaos; specially government, financial and scientific systems. Black hat hackers using AI, deep learning and machine learning to infiltrate sophisticated and classified systems. Is it good to show your geniuses in a non-productive way? Well, this is a matter of choice.

To sum up, AI is not only robot that makes pancake for your granny like in iRobot movie or attacks detective Spooner breaking the last law of three fictional robot laws. There are more than just any robot having artificial intelligence. Try to consider the whole system.
