Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Not here to replace your job

It's my opinion and I too was pondering about AI and its implications on the current job holders.

"AI" per se will and should not take away jobs but, inexperienced leaders without the true understanding of AI might and could (may be because their “intelligence” is that much “artificial”, LoL).

In my opinion, the support from AI should be fully utilised to lessen the burden of the employees and promote the resulting free time to leverage additional trainings and build a stronger workforce to take the business to next level.

Why AI? What does it do and how?

Firstly, AI is an age-old concept, it was a dream, an idea, the term Artificial Intelligence was coined by one of the founders of AI – John McCarthy in 1955. (Together, with him were Marvin Minsky, Herbert A. Simon and Allen Newell)

It has almost taken us a century to reach where we are today and just like today then, when the news of AI was out people were scared of the outcome. Fear of jobs being taken away, of progress and everything that we feel as of today were the same, only it was a different era.

AI is aimed at (to a possible extent) making machines perform certain tasks independently without human interference by artificially mimicking human traits like reasoning, problem solving, preparation, ideation, acuity, etc. This is made possible to an extent with programs, codes, algorithms, etc. So, if we dive deep in to this realm of AI it opens the path to Machine Learning (Google translator is an example), Neural Networks (similar to the synapse in our nervous system) and then goes on to Deep Learning (this is the same as for us, the more we learn the more we know and can get confident in matters).

A simple example of AI is our mobile phones (though AI gurus would argue this as the most basic attempt towards AI, nevertheless), with mobile phones evolved mobile network and we combined the internet with it and easy anytime communication is a dream come true. We use messengers, emails, video chats, voicemails, etc., to communicate. What happened then? Did all the post offices close? Do we not have any more postal services? No, it has in fact, more than helped the postal services for better communications and efficient working methods.

Fear or not, truth – AI is here and it is here to stay. AI is to simplify our day-to-day tasks, help us in improving our impact assessment, risk mitigation, foresight, anticipations and all other necessary traits for business as usual, only difference, if we normally take 4 hours to complete an assessment, AI would offer a helping hand to reduce that time by 80% to 90% and make us more efficient and that much productive.

So, stop being the human who fears everything due to lack of knowledge and be the human who craves learning and wants to leverage this AI to utilize the additional time to learn more and get trained well in other areas of interest.

Oh, and one more thing, AI will not, cannot and never would be able to challenge the human capacity. As someone said, AI will eventually takeover and whatever leading to singularity, this is good for and in movies, that are made for our entertainment, but it can never be real. We gave birth to AI because we had a dream, because we are humans, because we don’t know – why, how and what we know. With all the deep learning, machine learning and AI it will always remain ARTIFICIAL, because we have the REAL INTELLIGENCE.
