Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) Cortana, Windows 10 & Spartan arrive!

After 20 years of Legacy Internet Explorer Code, Microsoft has decided to come to the party by giving birth to a brand new web browser that is designed for interoperability and international standards amongst web browsers. This new browser is officially named Spartan! It comes with built in "continuum technology," a system that helps users move seamlessly from laptop to tablet modes and even works without attachable keyboards and compensates for keyboards when they are attached. I can think of no better name than (Spartan) to describe a minimalist perspective yet one that is powerful and agile at the same time.
In my first demo of Windows 10, complete yesterday, the new Spartan web browser was not included in the "windows 10 preview" version which I tested on two touch screen devices. Notwithstanding its absence, one could easily see where Microsoft is headed. This is probably the first time since its inception that I have seen Microsoft move towards another standard thats not entirely their own and do so without much fuss. This is probably yet another example of the new Microsoft, under its new and more modern CEO Satya Nadella who is now occupying the cloud and strategizing inside its great potential. “I think we are in the dawn of a new generation of business systems,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is quoted saying just a few days ago. “The ability in real time to reason over data can build systems of intelligence. It converts systems into learning systems.” Nadella's vision is clear to me because its the direction that modern technology is moving:
Chesler states, "AI is where we are moving today. Weather you call it Cortana or Suri or ALEX or some other human name, systems are learning our behaviors and learning how to support us better. This new development at scale is going to give rise to some amazing advances."
Back to the new browser, which is impossible to separate from its AI engine dubbed Cortana, taken from the Microsoft Xbox game HALO, Cortana is the mystical female caricature depicted in the picture above.
Nadella and his team clearly know that IE is old and legacy driven and not cool, but he is looking well past the old IE that came out in 1995 and has pushed its useful life to the limit. IE will fall by the wayside over time yet many laggards will continue to use this inside corporate walls where IT is horded by the old guard. Nadella's team is looking at today's browsers and how to emulate them and plan for the future with Spartan. People want a web browser that simply works quickly and is html5. Consumers want something that works on all their devices, desktops, laptops, tablets, phablets and phones. The Spartan Web browser is not a relative of IE in any way. It moves more like Chrome and what I credit Nadella and his team of developers at MS with, is recognizing who the leader is in this space right now. Chrome as owned by Google is gaining the most market share. Firefox is innovative but lacks the muscle and marketing machine. There are other great browswers worthy of note such as Opera and a Maxthon, but they too lack the platform distribution. Maxthon is highly innovative and lightweight. What microsoft has chosen to do with Spartan is fantastic. They are moving towards Chrome and Firefox in terms of international web standards and yet they are making Spartan more modern and connected. The days of sylo mentality are numbered. Even a company as grand as Microsoft cannot exist in a sylo alone. We are compelled to connect and collaborate to move to the next level.

9 年One of the interesting and important questions is how will Spartan function when layered ontop of non Windows Operating Systems. As it stands now, Chrome is actually more powerful ontop of Windows 8.1 than it is on Android or Apple. Universal standards is a great thing for developers and ultimately a great thing for consumers.

9 年Clearly its about time, still waiting for them to get to work creating the Master Chief so that Cortana has someone to boss around. Can't wait to put Spartan to the test.

9 年About time. I've been following the "browser wars" since the beginning when Netscape was king. I am glad to see Microsoft finally develop a strategy to not only keep up, but to compete in the modern environment. I think the next couple of years are going to be interesting.
