Artificial Humans

Artificial Humans

In a world where the internet was once a luxury, now accessible to anyone with a phone or computer and WiFi, artificial intelligence emerges as the new frontier, reshaping both our personal and professional landscapes.

But what exactly is artificial intelligence, and why is it crucial everyone understands it?

Artificial intelligence, or AI, represents the synthesis of human ingenuity and computational power. It's about machines processing information and learning, understanding, and generating novel insights. Yet, amidst the excitement, a fundamental question persists: Can we truly mechanise human thought?

For centuries, humans have been striving to recreate humans. Striving for the ability to recreate human thought. For centuries, philosophers claimed that we would act like a god and duplicate his greatest creation - humans (Gold, 2023). But how?

In reality, AI is not new. It has been around since the 1950s, when the computer was first invented. The father of computing, Alan Turing, then created a test for machines. The Turing test is still used today, to measure the degree to which machines exhibit human-like behaviour (Stanford, 2003).

The challenge is as humans, we still don't truly understand how we think. In the 1800s the science of understanding how humans think (Psychology) began to make progress. But like AI, philosophers have been studying and theorising how humans think for years.

Human behaviour flows from three main sources: desire, emotion and knowledge. (Plato)

This challenge echoes historical missteps, like the debunked pseudoscience of phrenology, where bumps on the head were thought to reveal personality traits. Just as our understanding of the mind has evolved, so too must our approach to AI. And fast.

After all, AI isn't just about innovation; it's about shaping a future that benefits society at large.

Join the conversation as we explore the intersection of human intelligence and AI, paving the way for a more informed, ethical, and inclusive future.
