Article13 - Rail and Bus safety harmonisation – a shared functioning solution

As human beings, regardless of our backgrounds and locations, our safety and well-being are of the utmost importance. This shared value is reflected in international regulations such as OHSA (now known as ISO 45001:2018). Although these regulations aren't always implemented, given the severe consequences of accidents, it is fundamental to assess and mitigate risks wherever possible. Our proposed solution, the Safe-T-Punch?, is designed to uphold these values and ensure the safety of all passengers.

The rail industry has adopted a strategy of harmonising and cross-utilizing UN ECE regulations, recognising the value of sharing safety innovations across sectors. Regarding emergency windows, both buses and trains use certified toughened safety glass, which must be broken in an emergency.

For buses, the following rule applies:

7.6.8.2.2.????????????Be made of readily-breakable safety glass. This latter provision precludes the possibility of using panes of laminated glass or of plastic material. A device shall be provided adjacent to each emergency window, readily available to persons inside the vehicle, to ensure that each window can be broken.
