Article requests

Hello there,

We don't believe that Australia's Federal and State and Territory Governments have a good understanding of what their respective policies on environmental stewardship should be.

Accordingly, we invite you to submit an article on what you think should be included in policies to protect the environment.

You may wish to consider some or all of the points below in your article.

The precautionary principle in environmental science states: When an activity raises threats of harm to human health or the environment, precautionary measures should be taken even if some cause-and-effect relationships are not fully established scientifically.

The precautionary principle in environmental law requires that, if there is a strong suspicion that a certain activity may have environmentally harmful consequences, it is better to control that activity now rather than to wait for incontrovertible scientific evidence.

Cause and effect is a relationship between events or things, where one is the result of the other or others. This is a combination of action and reaction.

Mitigation - the action of reducing the severity, seriousness, or painfulness of something. e.g. "the identification and mitigation of pollution"

Adaptation - the action or process of adapting or being adapted.e.g. "the adaptation of teaching strategy to meet students' needs"

Conflicting policies rather than complementary - e.g. Mining and Petroleum companies mostly exempt from adhering to environmental laws
