Article 6 and long-term Financing; discussions back on track(?), and Neyen at LCAW

Dear Reader,

We recently passed the longest day in the northern hemisphere while it was the shortest day in the south. Summer/ Winter solstice. Ebb and flow. Ying and yang. This month has been very active in the Article 6 space for Neyen yet tensions remained at the SB60 international negotiations in the debate between centralists and decentralists, among other things.?

However, hope remains that Article 6 discussions maybe back on track after the stalemate at COP28. See Johan Nylander's opinion piece for more details. Transparency was very much on everyones' lips at the Article 6 side event we participated in with IETA and Government of Nigeria. This is exactly where Article 6 Frameworks can play a key role.

While in Bonn we presented a criteria toolkit for Article 6 project analysis and identification/selection at an networking event organized by GIZ. This aims to address what we call the Article 6 financing dilemma. This is the topic of our Insights piece this month.?

Moving on to Just Transition, we're happy to share our latest case which highlights how Neyen provided technical assistance to help formulate the Just Transition Framework for JETP in Indonesia.

Finally, we look forward to Neyen's participation at London Climate Action Week. We have organized a live event with members of the Alliance for a Just Energy Transformation (AJET) to showcase AJET in action including case studies, Q&A with participants and an informal meet & greet.

Let's keep Breathing Forth Innovation!

The Article 6 financing trilemma

Article 6 and Long-term Financing

A version of the presentation Miguel* gave at a recent GIZ Article 6 networking event in Bonn looking into Article 6 and long-term financing. In particular, the prioritization of Article 6 activities that contribute to long-term climate goals and the mobilization of SDG finance. This goes hand-in-hand with a Policy Note we prepared for GIZ's Article 6 Capacity Building Programme.

* Miguel lost his voice this week so Oliver kindly stepped in for this recording ;-)

AJET in action at London Climate Action Week

Counting down to this afternoon's AJET in Action event at London Climate Action Week! Neyen's Jeremy Buhain will join other members of AJET (Alliance for a Just Energy Transformation) and a wonderful group of participants from a broad spectrum of industry, agencies, government administration and CSOs.

Neyen organized the live event together with WWF and KMPG to highlight current initiatives such as the integration of Just Energy Transition into Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and cases showing AJET in action. This will be followed by a Q&A with participants and an informal meet and greet where we hope to celebrate the festival spirit of LCAW.
