Loonshots: Crazy ideas (design/engineering) + Steady growth (business) = Successful organization. A little sprinkle sprinkle of good culture never killed nobody. A good leader, should maintain the balance between the two so that neither overwhelms the other. Design/Engineering and Business have to feel equally loved. This balance is often overlooked.
Fast Bad Wrong: When you have an idea or a project, create a draft using the principles of Fast Bad Wrong. This is just a first draft; it doesn’t have to be pretty or all correct. Instead, you place words on paper that you can reflect on. This will help you start the process. This way, you don’t have to start from scratch every time. It is much easier to edit a Fast Bad Wrong thing than get it right the first time.
The principle of Fast Bad Wrong stems from Safi Bahcall, author of Loonshots, how to nurture crazy ideas that win wars, cure diseases, and transform industries.?

Error Checking Fail? A negative reward is not possible (at least not here we are dealing with people not machines this is not one of your AI agents. “Negative rewards are penalties assigned to an “agent” that takes undesirable actions. The goal of the mechanism is to discourage actions that lead to suboptimal outcomes” when training an agent in an “environment” we want the agent to maximize for penalty reduction) And every new challenge should append to the table and not overwrite the entry on the table.

Some Extra Thoughts
“I Ubered to the polling location.”
Today, "Uber" is a verb in informal speech. In August, I laid out a theory to a group of friends (Hello Mikey 4rm D east) and family: my belief about Uber. “To call an autonomous car, you need the Uber application.”
"Uber does not fit the strategy. What about Tesla? Does that not cover this autonomous vehicle angle?"
Yes, sir, I know Uber does not fit the strategy, but I do not know how far away the “self-driving cars of Tesla” are. But this I know: Waymo is driving around cities today and will continue to expand to more cities as it gets better.
"So you are trying to tell me that a company owned by Alphabet which is way-mo' bigger than Uber basically creates a gig worker for Uber?"
They are doing it in Phoenix, and it even goes to the airport. [I did not get the approval]
I did it anyway (a very small position). "I am here to inform you (I did what you said I should not do) before you see it on paper. I am already out of it; I left last week at 80. Yes, I know there will be consequences for deviating from the strategy."
In 2025 to get a Waymo cab in Austin, you need Uber One. Uber One, is a subscription. Now you see my reasoning.
What if this bet was wrong? Let's not think about that...
That is easy to say when you are playing with house money.
Uber sold its self driving sector to Aurora innovation which is led by Urmson. Urmson was previously the chief technology officer of Waymo, Google/Alphabet Inc.'s self-driving team. (This is how I discovered Waymo in 2020 and has since been monitoring this space)
In 2024 people more experienced than me are asking me if this makes sense. In a world where everyone is trying to own the customer, why would Waymo allow Uber to own the customer? This is the million dollar question that I do not have the answer to.
"So you are trying to tell me that a company owned by Alphabet which is way-mo' bigger than Uber basically creates a gig worker for Uber?"
Maybe it is a test, an experiment.
Maybe Uber is thinking the same thing also. Maybe that is why that Aurora deal in 2020 was for equity not cash because Uber owns about 26% of Aurora Innovation.
