'ARTH' - Reggio-inspired preschool
The Reggio Emilia is an early childhood learning approach or philosophy based on the image of a child with opportunities for a holistic development. It was named after the town where it originated in Italy. Founder Loris Malaguzzi believed that children were in urgent need of a more holistic kind of education. He began the ‘Reggio Emilia’ style based on the belief that every child is unique, competent, capable and will express their interests in different ways if they are given the space and opportunity, irrespective of their age. It revolves around the child’s senses- based on sight, sound, touch and even taste and smell to help with learning.?
What is the role of an educator in a reggio-inspired classroom?
Reggio teachers utilize strategies such as exposing children to a wide variety of educational opportunities that encourage self-expression, communication, logical thinking, and problem-solving.? Therefore, Reggio Emilia classrooms tend to look different than our traditional preschool. The approach promotes ample common spaces, natural elements and elements that bring them closer to the reality and loads of materials that would help them build or strengthen their creativity.?
‘Arth’, a child-centered program in Kolkata for children between 18 months to 7 years of age (fit for the Indian context), where learning is a joyful endeavor and children learn and have fun all in the very same space. This preschool was founded based on the Reggio Emilia approach and we believe that all children are born competent, capable and eager to learn and that all children can and must experience success in school.
All children are born deeply curious with an innate desire to explore and interact with the world around them to gather knowledge. They are born with the necessary intelligence and skill to process their experiences and form coherent ideas about the world. They are born with a sense of grit and resilience which allows them to persevere over and over until they succeed, without the slightest loss of enthusiasm. We at Arth, believe that children have a deep need to make sense of this world they grow up in, and hence the name, “arth”.
So what is the goal of our program?
‘Arth-Hours’ is a holistic learning program aimed at nurturing the wholeness that lies within all children between the age of 1.5 years to 7 years of age. Arth-Hours is aimed at nurturing a child’s entire being – Head (Cognitive), Heart (Emotion), and Hands (Skills). Our goal at Arth is that through our integrated learning program that brings together the latest research in cognitive neuroscience, cutting edge experiential learning pedagogies, a holistic curriculum and the most loving learning community on the planet to nurture this wholesomeness is an environment overflowing with love, joy and a sense of responsibility.?
We focus on some learning outcomes - your children will become a strong communicator, will develop a mathematical interest, develop the spirit of Scientific Inquiry, develop Curiosity, Creativity, Resilience, Emotional Agility, Executive Function Skills (CEO Skills) and Metacognition. They will also learn how to work together, lead and follow. They will develop all the skills that are necessary to become self learners. Most importantly, they will fall in love with learning. Your children will come into our space and truly become ‘arthlings’.?
“The greatest gift we can give to children is to help them find true joy in learning. If we can make them fall in love with learning again, our job is done! That is our highest goal at arth.”
