Art & wellbeing: more than just decoration

Art & wellbeing: more than just decoration

2025 is romping on and it’s already shaping up to be a busy and creative year for us. And we’ve been thinking a lot about how art isn’t just about aesthetics – it plays a vital role in wellbeing too.

The power of art in wellbeing

There’s a lot of buzz around the link between creativity and mental health – and for good reason. Art has a unique ability to lift moods, provide an escape from stress and bring people together. Whether it’s a painting on a wall or a hands-on creative session, engaging with art can be a powerful way to enhance well-being.

It's something that Nicci Rushfirth and myself are really passionate about, and we've seen first-hand how artwork in a workspace can inspire teams, boost morale, and even improve focus. That’s why we’re excited to be running two art workshops in March for Candlelighters, a Yorkshire-based charity supporting families facing children’s cancer.

These workshops will give participants the chance to explore different creative techniques in a relaxed, supportive environment – a space to create, connect, and unwind. We’ll share more about these workshops in future updates.

Behind the scenes: A special commission

On the topic of creativity, we also wanted to share a recent project that really highlighted the power of personal art. Maria Walsh, a previous client, approached us with a unique request – she and four friends were all celebrating a milestone birthday (I won’t say which one!), and she wanted something special.

The challenge?

Creating five bespoke pieces that stood out individually yet also connected as a collective.

No pressure, right?

But that’s the magic of bespoke art – it’s more than just decoration. It tells a story, captures a moment, and creates something truly meaningful. Seeing their reactions was a reminder of why we do what we do – art has the power to bring people together in the most personal ways.

Three reasons why art is good for the office:

1?? Art boosts productivity & creativity – According to hyperallergic.com, studies have shown that employees working in art-enriched offices can experience up to a 17% increase in productivity.

2?? Art enhances employee wellbeing – Research by oneworkplace.com indicates that 78% of employees agree that artwork helps reduce stress, and 64% believe it enhances creativity and innovation.

3?? Art strengthens company identity – According to ninedotarts.com bespoke art reinforces a company’s brand and values, making a lasting impression on both employees and visitors. It turns a workplace into an inspiring space that reflects the company culture.
