The Art of Visualisation

Our philosophy – No child or adult need fail because of dyslexia.
Reading is one of the most important skills a child can learn, but for many children, it can be a struggle. One of the reasons for this struggle is that children often focus too much on decoding words, and not enough on understanding the meaning behind them. This is where the art of visualization comes in.
Visualization is the ability to create mental images of what we are reading. It allows children to see the story in their minds, rather than just hearing the words. This helps them to understand the meaning of the text and to make connections between the words and the world around them. Teaching children to visualize while they read can be a slow process, but it is well worth the effort.
Start by encouraging children to stop every few lines and make a mental picture of what they have just read. This will help them to focus on the meaning of the words, rather than just the sounds. As children become more comfortable with visualization, they will begin to do it automatically. Reading materials that contain rich and detailed descriptions can help to prompt visualization. For example, if the text describes a forest, children can imagine the tall trees, the rustling leaves and the chirping birds.
In addition, asking children questions about the text can also help to prompt visualization. For example, "What does the main character look like?" or "What is happening in the scene?" These questions will help children to create mental images and to understand the text better.
