The Art of Taste: Lessons from Paris to Kingston

What does it mean to have “taste”? It’s a question I’ve been fascinated with since I first stepped into a Parisian atelier, surrounded by fabrics that whispered elegance, and design that felt timeless. Taste, I realised, is about how we see the world, how we curate our lives, and how we express who we are.
When I founded KERRYmanwomanhome, my goal was never just to create a store. I wanted to craft a space that didn’t just sell products but celebrated the art of living. Taste, after all, is not about trends or price tags. It’s about intention; choosing pieces, moments, and experiences that resonate deeply with who we are.
I often think back to my time studying in France. The French taught me that style is personal, but it’s also universal. It’s in the details: the way a seam is sewn, the weight of a fabric, or even how a store feels when you walk inside. That philosophy has guided everything we currently do at Locale, from the curation of our collections to the ambiance of our space, working alongside Aiesha Panton (MoDA/Pussbackfoot) and Dr. Dainia Baugh (The DB Glow) to create a concept store housing three local brands.
"Taste isn’t about having more; it’s about appreciating what you have and finding beauty in simplicity," Kerry
In Jamaica, the concept of “taste” is just as rich, but it’s uniquely ours. It’s in the bold colours of a market, the rhythm of our music, and the craftsmanship of our artisans. At Locale, we aim to bridge these two worlds: the sophistication of Europe with the vibrant soul of the Caribbean.

"For me, Locale is a celebration of what it means to have a distinctly Euro-Caribbean perspective on global style," Kerry
Building Locale has been a lesson in redefining taste - it’s about fostering a community where people feel inspired to live intentionally and beautifully. It’s about slowing down to savour the process, whether that’s in choosing a handcrafted bag or simply appreciating the craftsmanship in the details.
"Good taste is timeless, but it’s also fearless. It’s about honouring tradition while daring to innovate," Kerry
So, what does taste mean to you? Is it in the things you own, the experiences you seek, or the way you live your life?
At Locale, we believe taste is about seeing the extraordinary in the everyday. Let’s start a conversation about curating a life of purpose, beauty, and style.
