Art Transcends Conventional Boundaries:

Tradition & Innovation, Painting & Sculpture?????

Great to return to Sundaram Tagore Gallery at Gillman Barracks again, this time to see the first exhibition in Singapore by US-based artist Kenny Nguyen (born 1990, Ben Tre Province, Vietnam). He presents new works of art - do we call them wall sculptures or paintings using silk on canvas? - inspired by recent travels in Vietnam. He is a new addition to the Gallery’s global roster of artists, joining in March 2024 and "Eruption" is his debut solo exhibition. The exhibition runs until 9 November 2024.? Go to Gillman Barracks to see for yourself, meantime see this exhibition catalogue.

Bringing Art Dreams to Reality

When we met the man himself, gallery owner and operator Mr Sundaram Tagore -at his Gillman Barracks gallery and the next day for lunch at ShangriLa - we discussed a lot of things, including the very large exhibition taking place in New York these days. Titled “The Great Elephant Migration,” the project features 100 life-size sculptures of Indian elephants crafted over the last five years by the Coexistence Collective, a team of 200 Indigenous artisans from Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in South India. We know its been shown in the streets of London before - to great acclaim - and maybe there's a chance it will come to Singapore one day, as even the Pope thinks Singapore has a lot in common with New York! Sundaram also admitted that he has a special interest in elephants and confessed to a long-held dream to support an elephant project in the Himalayas. You'll be hearing more from us about the man and his life's work, his dream projects, his galleries, his exhibitions and his involvement in Art Fairs around the world, including the next one in Singapore in January 2025. More on Sundaram Tagore here.
