Storytelling for leaders, with David Hutchens

Storytelling for leaders, with David Hutchens

Today, more and more organisations are recognising the power of narrative and story as a core leadership discipline. Join Johannesburg Business School for a two day programme on the 'Art of Storytelling' with David Hutchens. Watch the short video above to hear what will be covered in the programme from David himself.

The impact of storytelling can be seen in:

? Developing the organisation, or bringing new organisations into the system.

? Inviting customers and markets to engage with your offerings.

? Creating powerful ways to preserve your culture, archive knowledge, and speed the change process.

In this practical and interactive programme, world renowned and bestselling business author David Hutchens will introduce you to the fast-growing body of theory around organisational narrative. You will work on identifying the narrative assets that define your role and your leadership.

THROUGH THIS PROGRAMME YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO EXERCISE YOUR STORYTELLING CAPABILITIES FOR:

? Leadership influence: Tell stories to support engagement and buy-in across teams in order to create alignment around the most urgent work.

? Co-creation and knowledge sharing: Create deep conversations around identity, values, vision, and learning: Who are we? Who will we become in the future?

? Sales: Customers and markets are demanding a different kind of dialogue, one that doesn’t focus exclusively on transactions or commoditised innovation. They want to know: Who are you? What do you care about? What is unique and special about you? What would it feel like to partner with you? What’s your story?

? Creating partnerships: For companies who are hiring (and for young leaders who are searching for the next opportunity), today’s hiring conversation is built around a shared narrative. Employers and job seekers are asking each other the same questions: Who are you, what do you believe, and what’s your story?

IN THIS PROGRAMME, YOU WILL:

? Find stories. Story is, first, a strategic act. You will encounter frameworks for recognising and selecting the core “narrative assets” of your work and identity.

? Tell stories. Experience the powerful connection and “neural coupling” that happens when people engage one another with narrative.

? Create meaning from stories. Story circles are a basic and timeless construct for encountering one another, for accessing one another’s knowledge, and for creating actionable wisdom that can move the team forward with purpose and commitment.

? Tell better stories. Sometimes it is important to tell really good stories. Using David’s unique Story Map Resource, leaders will construct critical narratives that they wish to deliver with lasting impact. ? Visual thinking. Leverage the power of metaphor and images to access breakthrough thinking from the “right side of the brain.” These insights have implications for how leaders leverage PowerPoint to engage (and not bore) their audiences.

? Connect it to the business. Using the Leadership Story Deck, you will sequence strategic stories into a message strategy that will create persuasion, inspiration, and movement in the system.
