The Art of Setting and Achieving Goals

Setting and achieving Goals is essential for success in any area of life. Whether you want to get a promotion at work, start your own business, or lose weight, having clear and achievable Goals will help you stay motivated and on track.

Part 1: Setting Goals

The first step to achieving your Goals is to set them. This idea may seem obvious, but many people need to take the time to think about what they want to achieve. As a result, their Goals often need to be more specific and realistic.

Goal setting is a conscious mind activity involving your imagination and analytical cognitive thinking skills simultaneously. Ensure you apply your creativity first, leaving the analytical thinking part until you clearly define who, what, and where you want to be.

When setting Goals, it is vital to be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. This concept is known as the SMART Goal-setting framework.

  • S – Specific: Your Goals should be clear and well-defined. For example, instead of saying, "I want to get in shape," say, "I want to lose 10 pounds in 3 months."
  • M – Measurable: Your Goals should be measurable so that you can track your progress and see how close you are to achieving them. For example, instead of saying, "I want to be more successful at work," say, "I want to get a promotion in 1 year."
  • A – Achievable: Your Goals should be achievable but not too easy. If your Goals are too easy, you won't be motivated to achieve them. If your Goals are too complicated, you'll likely get discouraged and give up.
  • R – Relevant: Your Goals should reflect your overall Goals and values. For example, if your Goal is to get a promotion at work, make sure that your other Goals, such as getting more education or taking on more responsibilities, are aligned with this Goal.
  • T – Time-bound: Your Goals should have a deadline so that you have a sense of urgency and stay motivated. For example, instead of saying, "I want to learn a new language," say, "I want to speak Spanish conversationally within six months."

SMART!

Here is a 6-step exercise that you can do to help you complete Part One of your Goal-setting-achieving process:

  1. Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.
  2. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
  3. Imagine that you have already achieved your Goal. What does it feel like? What do you see? What do you hear?
  4. Now, think about the steps you must take to achieve your Goal. What do you need to do first? What do you need to do next?
  5. Write down your Goal and the steps you need to take to achieve it.
  6. Review your Goal and steps regularly and make adjustments as needed.

Once you have set some SMART Goals, it is essential to write them down. This action will help you to stay focused and motivated. It would be best to share your Goals with a trusted friend or family member. This step will help you to stay accountable and get support on your journey.

Part 2: Achieving Goals

Once you have set your Goals, it is time to work towards achieving them. Here is a 6-step exercise that you can do to help you complete Part Two of your Goal-setting-achieving process:

  • Break Down Your Goals Into Smaller Steps: This technique will make them seem less daunting and more achievable. For example, if your Goal is to write a book, break it down into smaller steps, such as brainstorming ideas, writing an outline, and writing one chapter at a time.
  • Create a Plan: Once you have broken down your goals into smaller steps, plan how to achieve them. This part of the plan may involve setting deadlines for each step and identifying any resources that you will need.
  • Take Action: The most important thing is to take action and start working towards your Goals. Don't wait until you feel perfect or have everything figured out. Just start and make adjustments as you go.

Take Action!

  • Be Patient: Achieving your Goals takes time and effort. Keep going even if you don't see results immediately. Just keep working hard and don't give up.
  • Be Persistent: If you experience setbacks. Everyone experiences setbacks from time to time. The important thing is to learn from your mistakes, make adjustments, correct your actions, and keep moving forward.
  • Learn: Learn about the Laws that govern the Goal Achieving Process. Some of these Laws that directly affect the process are:

  1. The Law of Cause and Effect: Everything happens for a reason; every effect has a specific cause or causes.
  2. The Law of Polarity: Everything in the Universe has an opposite (left has right, in has out, good has bad, hot has a cold, etc.). Everything in our Universe is dual, and everything perfectly expresses its opposite.
  3. The Law of Vibration: Everything in the universe is in a constant state of movement. We refer to these movements as vibration, and the speed or rate at which something vibrates is called its frequency.
  4. The Law of Gender: Everything has masculine and feminine qualities and a gestation period.
  5. The Law of Perpetual Transmutation of Energy: Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Still, it changes from one state to another. This process means that the energy in the universe is constantly transmuting into and out of form.
