The art of selling is listening.

Anti-ordinary people.

Rob McDougal. Head of Sales.?

Rob McDougal is Head of Sales at Twisted Automotive. We spoke to him about the journey of a Twisted customer and how his job is surplus to requirements. Kind of.?

Here's a step-by-step guide to buying a Twisted. From Rob McDougal, Head of Sales.?

Picture yourself in a sterile showroom, getting the hard sell by someone working to meet their monthly target. Then imagine the complete opposite. That's a Twisted sales experience.

Step 1: Get in touch.?

All good things start with hello. We’re a small team, so you’ll be in contact with the right person immediately. Wondering whether a passion for Land Rover Defender fuels us? Let me tell you, my everyday hack/school run bus/camping wagon is a green 110 utility. I just can’t live with an “ordinary” vehicle.

Step 2: Come and see us.?

I’ll welcome you to the Old Cinema and factory in Thirsk. You can’t call it a showroom. It’s more of a cafe, museum, space for eclectic memorabilia and eccentric people. Meeting face-to-face is always best because you’ll feel at ease. Let us make you a coffee and we’ll go from there.?

Step 3: Tell us about yourself.

I listen more than I talk to understand your needs. Yes, I will ask questions about your lifestyle, travels and family. If you have a dog and horses. If you shoot, surf, ski. But these are just prompts to understand how Twisted can best create a vehicle that is the perfect addition to your life. Even if you don’t have the budget for a full commission, you’ll be amazed at what we can do. You’re treated the same whether you spend £10k or £200k.?

Step 4: See where the magic happens.

The magic happens in the workshop. It’s a few minutes down the road from The Old Cinema showroom. You’re welcome to look around and chat with the technicians. We want you to see, touch, smell and hear what your vehicle could look like. With an array of projects on the ten ramps at any time, you’ll get a sense of what Twisted is about. Now, I step back and let the Twisted technicians take the lead. After all, they are the people who make your dreams come true. I’m surplus to requirement, kind of.

Step 5: Let us give you a quote.

No pressure.?

If you’ve always dreamed of owning a Land Rover Defender, redefined by Twisted, pick up the phone today and let’s get you a coffee. If you have a Land Rover Defender that you’d like the Twisted technicians to service and repair, you’ll be in the best hands.?

We all experience (unfortunately) that we are "forced" to buy a car via the internet. You can select the colour and that's about it. No emotions attached to an investment which will be, next to buying a house, the most expensive capital outlay you do in your life (and because cars have become a consumable thus process is repeated every few years). To a number of people this buying or call it ordering process, is fine. Some if us however don't like this route. They like to be treated as a human and not as a computer. That group is well served at Twistwed I'd say , and ... I am speaking from experience ??. To Twisted... keep going, you are doing an exceptional job. And by the way Rob, you are not selling a car, you are guiding a customer through a decision process. We call this the consultative approach. The opposite is the transactional one. This being the take it or leave it way, which is not the Twisted way.
