As AI tools like GPT-4 become more widely available, knowing how to prompt them effectively is an increasingly valuable skill. Here are three tips I've found useful for eliciting high-quality outputs from AI, along with examples for each:
Examples: a) Instead of "Write a poem," try "Write a 14-line sonnet about the beauty of a sunrise, using vivid imagery and a Shakespearean rhyme scheme." b) Rather than "Create a meal plan," go for "Create a 7-day, 2000-calorie meal plan suitable for a vegan athlete training for a marathon, focusing on whole foods and high-protein ingredients."
Examples:
a) After receiving a draft blog post, you could prompt, "Great start! Now please shorten the introduction, add a personal anecdote in the second paragraph, and include a call to action at the end."
b) If an AI-generated image isn't quite right, you might say: "I like the overall composition, but can you make the colors more vibrant, add a city skyline in the background, and put the main subject slightly off-center?"
Examples:
a) If an AI writing tool generates an essay on a historical topic, fact-check key details against reputable sources before using the content.
b) When using AI to brainstorm business ideas, critically evaluate each suggestion in terms of feasibility, market demand, and your own skills and resources.
With practice, you'll develop an intuition for prompting AI to get the results you're looking for. AI is a powerful tool to add to your skill set in today's world. Let me know what other tips and examples you've found useful for AI work!
