Art of Play: Coloring For Adults

Art of Play: Coloring For Adults

Last night I spent some time hanging out with my next-door neighbor and his girlfriend.  One of the first questions she asked was whether I work with kids or adults.  My response: “Both.  We all need to play right?”

In January, 2016, I created a workshop called The Art of Play: Coloring for Adults workshop to give adults a creative outlet to socialize, practice being in the moment and using coloring books as a way to manage stress and reduce anxiety.  I wanted to create a safe place for open discussion about life stress, learn ways to reduce burnout and have fun.  A semi-structured playdate for adults.

In his book, “Play: How It Shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination, and Invigorates the Soul, Dr. Stuart Brown, M.D. states, “Life without play is a life without books, without movies, without art, music, drama, jokes, dramatic stories.”  In his research on play he has found that remembering what play is all about and making it part of our daily lives are the most important factors in being a fulfilled human being.

Let me say it again…  Remembering the importance of play and making it part of our daily lives are the most important factors in being a fulfilled human being.  Makes play sound important and necessary, right?
