The Art of Lime Plaster

This decorative 'green man' chimney piece was carried in heavy relief by Johanna Welsh, @traditionalpargetting.co.uk for luxury Suffolk holiday location, Garden Cottage @wildernessreserve.com

Johanna used the lightweight and insulated (and extremely heat resistant) Warmcote to 'core out' the wild man's profile straight onto the brick background. She was then able to use Limecote chalk plaster to add the detail and finish to the piece.

Limecote is based on a medieval plaster recipe, used extensively across East Anglia for decorative plaster work, from comb 'prickwork' to very heavy relief modelling 150mm deep and beyond.

Nice work, a bold choice in this land of mainly flat walls. Is the man consuming the fire or producing it? Good photo too, dual exposure I'm guessing to get the flames so well.
