For optimal results, the path of the workpiece should form a continuous curve, ensuring that every point on the surface experiences the same treatment. By placing workpieces inside a rotating ring on the lapping plate, we control the density of their movement, allowing us to adjust pressure, trajectory, and ultimately, the final surface quality.

For double-sided lapping, the approach is equally meticulous. This method allows us to simultaneously lap both sides of the workpiece, which is held between upper and lower plates. With both sides of the workpiece following the same trajectory, we achieve excellent parallelism and consistency. Double-sided lapping is particularly effective for thicker workpieces, reducing thickness variation and ensuring that both surfaces are finished to the highest standards.

The lapping plate plays a critical role in the entire process. Its surface accuracy, material composition, and design are crucial for achieving the desired results. For ultra-precise applications, we use diamond slurries, which offer significant advantages over traditional abrasives. Diamonds, being the hardest known material, allow for faster material removal, improved surface finishes, and more consistent results. The diamond particles are suspended in either oil or water, creating a slurry that ensures even distribution and optimised performance across the workpiece.
