The Art of The Job Search

Job search strategies have changed and the art of honing your job search skills is crucial to success. The days when merely submitting a resume and hoping for the best are gone. Today’s job seeker needs to have a strategic approach. Here are four ideas to add to your strategy:

Resume and Cover Letter Customization

It’s highly essential to target your resume and cover letter in a way that aligns with the role itself. This not only showcases how your skills are a match for the position but also your interest in the position and in your next potential employer. In today's market, there is a renewed desire for candidates who are passionate about the role and company.

Networking

If you’re not networking… Well, you might as well be sitting on a park bench waiting for a billion dollars to drop from the sky. Networking (online and offline) with professionals in your field, talent acquisition professionals, hiring managers, and other people in your line of work who are also on the hunt will open doors to job openings, and information exchange that will help your search.

Online Presence

In today's age, this is a staple in the professional world; especially, if you're on the job hunt. A strong online presence on sites like LinkedIn will increase your chances of being noticed by recruiters and potential employers (if you’re an engineer, sites like GitHub or stackoverflow are very valuable). Keep your profile updated, share meaningful content through posts, re-posts, or articles, and contribute to discussions in a way that showcases your skills and knowledge.

Sharpen Your Skills

Or keep them sharp. As many are experiencing a longer time out of work, it’s important to focus on skill development to keep yourself relevant & marketable. If you're a LinkedIn Premium account owner, you have access to LinkedIn Learning. This is a tremendous tool with a plethora of learning content from every skill set you can imagine. Additionally, you’ll find an incredible amount of free workshops, talks, and articles that will help you stay current and relevant if you keep your eyes open on relevant social platforms.?

View your job search as an art form VS throwing spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks. Invest time in these areas and you’ll increase your chances of finding that next adventure. Good Luck!
