Art Illuminates Akron!

The energy was absolutely electric last night for the openings at Summit Artspace and the Akron Art Museum. I started at the Summit Artspace Gallery with the Ohio Collage Society’s Members Show. What an awesome, refreshing art form to recharge my batteries with. There were many mixed media pieces and also assemblages which truly enlivened my imagination. Getting to chat with friends at these openings is one of the joys of attending and I ended up doing quite a bit of that as well. I got to chat with Joan Colbert who is a resident artist at Summit Artspace. I also got to speak with artist Susan McClory and her son Will along with Kamelia Fisher who is the Executive Director of Summit Artspace. Sharing ideas about what makes art great in Akron was immensely inspiring and reminded me of why I love art shows so much.

Lots of excellent energy came out of my time at Summit Artspace. Then I raced over to the Akron Art Museum for the opening of Serial Intent, the museum’s new summer exhibition. It is such a thrill to get to see local and regional work being done by the Akron talent of Summit Artspace in the context of the many times more established and internationally recognized artists at the museum. The two are just a block away from each other! Huge names like Acconci and Holzer make up the present show at the museum, Warhol too! I wish I could comment more on the art but honestly I ended up talking with folks for most of the evening. And happily so! I plan to make return visits to both locations for further viewing. Many thanks to all who help out at both of these fantastic art hubs! You are truly appreciated. For everyone else, if you have not already, by all means, go and check out these spaces and their current shows. And if you have of course why not make another trip. They will help bring you to life for sure!
